Drawing and photography are central to my practice. Both make pressing - if sometimes fictitious - claims to the capture of lost moments.

Japan: The sketchbook. Beginning.

Oh,  I rue the day I bought this scanner/printer... this is hell to do! A fold out, ie 'Japanese' sketchbook seemed appropriate...

Quickly

I loved Monica and Eduardo's workshop on movement, which was based at Cais de Sodré in Lisbon. My drawings could have been done anywhere, though - I'm now sorry I didn't anchor the figures in space a little more! These are very quick and rough and some of them done without looking at the page.

Irises

My new scanner doesn't do the gutter between the two pages as clearly as the old scanner did... and here I've mismatched the sides slightly, but too lazy to re-scan...

Motivation

I've not been motivated this spring and early summer, as I was last year, to draw out in the garden and in the landscape, record all the wonderful growth happening... here are two very quick sketches on a walk nearby. The lambs are still here, I don't want to think of what might await them.

Dragon tree

I've had very little time for either drawing in my sketchbooks or taking photographs - and possibly a slightly depleted inclination at the moment, so just a trickle right now...

Self service

I hadn't used a plain old pencil for a long time - one always forgets how delicious it is to use this simplest and most rudimentary of marking tools!
