Drawing and photography are central to my practice. Both make pressing - if sometimes fictitious - claims to the capture of lost moments.

Hot from Lisbon

From my sweet and thoughtful sister in law, who attended the opening of the exhibition of sketchbooks in Portugal today (thank you Carole!)... these photographs:

Congratulations! This looks fabulous. I really like the way they are displayed in the cases and also on the wall.

Thanks, Alissa. I wasn't able to attend this time, but I think the pieces on the wall are facsimiles, and then in the drawers they are open on specific pages and placed under glass.

Ah, lovely! Nice display too - of course sketchbooks are most alluring if one can leaf through them, but with potentially hundreds or thousands handling them at an exhibition the wear would be substantial.

Yes, Ea - when I first saw the photo, in low res, I thought there was no glass and I was quite worried, as there are some notebooks there from a long time ago which I would be sorry to see ruined...

Have you exhibited at the Clermont-Ferrand travel journal festival? I've been invited, as the theme this year is "Scandinavia" and "islands", and I'm wondering what kind of set up they have at the exhibition.

No I haven't - I think I saw something about Clermont-Ferrand on someone else's blog - Lapin? Nothing like writing to the and asking the precisely how they intend to exhibit the work, and stipulating whether or not you want the books to be handled. Mostly, I think they don't do that because would be too expensive to deal with damage!

Óptima ideia a de exporem os cadernos em gavetas e alguns desenhos na parede...
Vai apetecer folheá-los...
Muito bonito.
